While most everybody now days has some form of old home movie laying around, stuffed in a box in the back of the closet, or in the basement (we all know they are there). You have told yourself or your spouse/siblings/parents, "we need to do something with these." If I heard these conversations, I would implicitly tell you that you need to take the time and dig them out, and get them transferred to a modern medium. Whether that be for viewing purposes or long term storage. Here is why.
I recently had a gentleman who had a bunch....Im talking hundreds.....of tapes, stop back into my office and share with me that one of the tapes was a family event at a local lake, while going through he noticed there were 5 people in that film that had passed away years ago. He and his family were able to see and hear a lost loved one, once again.
How important is that to you? How great would it be to see, and/or hear your grandmother, grandfather, mom, dad, brother, sister or maybe it was your child who you lost and is captured on those videos. That is why I encourage everyone to get them transferred.
A few months back, I had a gentleman bring in a home recorded vinyl record. This was recorded 50+ years ago, while he was in the service and stationed over seas. **Before I continue with the story, I would like to give my thanks to him and all veterans for their service and dedication to our freedom.** Now back to the story....This recording was his father and grandfather who had long since passed away. The record was cracked and he was a bit concerned with playing it, so he hadn't listened to it for decades. I was able to transfer about 90% of the record. I was able to watch the joy of being able to hear these words, literally wash over him. Seconds later the love he has for them, I could see build in the corner of his eye as a tear rolled down his cheek.
These are just a couple reasons I love what I do. This is why I feel it is so important to transfer these old mediums to new. I am able to give back to people what they may have never known they had. I am able to let people relive their childhood and rewatch their kids grow.
If you took the time to read this, leave me a comment about an experience you have had with old home movies and the emotion it invoked in you. If you haven't had that experience I think you should find those old memories, collecting dust, and literally fading away, bring them to me and I will help you relive those moments too.
Preserve your memories, Keep them well. What your forget you may never retell
